NOTE!!! There is PROBLEM with this book. The second half of the book is complete BULLSHIT - the author begins to advocate BORROWING and using loans. Ignore this second part. I would hope most of you would have the brains [moran] to figure that out, but still.

Letter from semicloud: Inflation
"dear hives: you said when you were 18, wages were 5-8 dollar. was there a minimum wage. what kind of jobs payed that much. second, what about technical jumps like computer programmers and accountant that require college degree. how much did they pay???
PS - The NEMESIS video "life after high school", first time i watched it, didn't comprehend the poignancy of your message. the second time i watched it today, with new understanding of inflation, was shocked at the message. anyone not shocked by these videos don't understand it"
semicloud: the minumum wage when I started working was $4.15 -- that was what my first job paid. Pretty much every job that didn't 'require' skill or a 'degree' paid that much. Clerks, fast-food etc.. Soon it was raised to $5.15.. now I think it's at 7$ or something. Back then when you rgraduated HS you expected to make $4.15. You were LUCKY if your found something like $6.50 an hour. $10 an hour was like managerial salary. And $12 an hour was unheard of in Philly except those who had only been working at a place for years.
Ways around this, like today were: civil service (cop, fireman, trash collector) they got paid more, probably starting at $10 an hour. College people usually started at $10-13 an hour.
In the beginning computer programmers didn't require a degree because NONE EXISTED! Computer classes were trivial classes that explained the concepts of programing languages such as BASIC and FORTRAN... disks were paper cards with holes punched in them! So I suppose they got paid very little because there was little demand for them.
Accountants I suspect made around $15 an hour back then.
It's important to point out that all these prices were RELATIVE... this is the whole STAGE EFFECT... you see the average college grad comes out today making $12-$15 an hour... when you factor in real inflation, this is like him making MINIMUM WAGE.
For instance I was making $15 an hour in 1998 WITHOUT a college degree... this was considered EXCELLENT back then when you consider that gas was 98 CENTS per gallon, and rent was $250 for a one bedroom flat. Beers were 75 cent for a pint at the bar. A six pack was $3.00. And $4 got you a combo meal at the Mac-Donnel.
Today in 2009 the equivalent wage would be about $35-$40 an hour. BUT - and this is a big BUT - college grads DO NOT make anywhere near $35 an hour out of school... its more like $15 an hour! So they are living 50% BELOW my standards in 1998. This is what the sheep can't comprehend. He thinks MORE is better, rather than looking at the VALUE or WORTH of things. College students today are literraly NOTHINGS when they graduate and enter the work force. They make $12-$15 an hour, in a world that chrages $5 a gallon for gas and $1000 a month for rent! The end result is like them making $4.15 an hour.
Semicloud this is the ESSENCE of the magic!
The essence of the magic is what NEMESIS videos keep saying: You CANNOT EVER BORROW TO GET 'AHEAD'. It sounds corny but: they call it BORROWING because YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT ALL BACK!!!... get it??? lol - this is the TRUTH... Ruth.... So today you have college graduates who are beyond lost, and beyond even the most migrant of mexican illegal laborers...
It's one thing to slave for $4.15 as I did, but it's another thing to slave for minum wage ($15 an hour) and have $80K in debt!!!
Maximum PWNDEDGE...
Stop thinking literally - think esoterically... this is why the sheep HATE when NEMESIS makes spelling errors, they are trained like a pack of silver-back gorillas, to focus on nonsensical DETAIL. They are trained to care NOT about the message of a sentence, but rather the grammatical details of it! LOL -- MOON-BATS!!! Absolute MOON-BATS!!! LOL Let them die!!! I can smell the iron in their BLOOD and I can taste their salty tears!!!
School trains them on DATES, PUNCTUATION, and other complete bullshit! Have you ever looked at how college student write? It's all about grammatical style ( ie - SOUNDING smart by using lots of different complex words etc..) and complexity. That's why college people write complicated sounding B.S. all the time -- they think to be intelligent is to PRETEND by being technically astute. All the while, they arent saying a DAMN THING, or making any sort of beneficial point to the reader.
So now they graduate college and do what??? MOVE BACK IN WITH MOMMY!
But back to your topic - inflation. The answer is it's all relative to the persons debt-load. For example - the Mac-Donnel starts people now at $8 an hour. This is MUCH MORE than a college grad making $15 but WITH $80K in DEBT! ie- that extra $7.50 he's making simply goes to his creditors each paycheck!! The end result is the same - both parties make $8 an hour - the only difference is the mac donnel worker is NOT a slave to his company - the only place he can go is 'up'. The college moran on the other hand is STUCK at his "set level" job of $15 an hour and wouldn't DARE jeopardizing not paying his student loan back and sullying his OH SO PRECIOUS credit rating!! LOL!
Just look at the housing bubble MOOKS now, they are STUCK!! why?? Because they don't want to mess up their "FICA score" LOLOLOLOL!!!!! bwahahahah!!!
Let the genocide come!!!
"thanks hives, you answered it here.

here is how i calculate inflation: wage/rent ratio index. to do so, i needed the information you have provided me.
15 dollar/ 250 rent= 0.06 this is 1998
15 dollar/ 700 rent =0.02 this is 2009, since wages haven't changed
as i can see, you are correct. cost have tripled due to inflation. .06/.02=3
your calculation is also correct
15 dollar *3 =45 dollar meaning you have to make around "35-40 dollar" to afford the same shit 10 years ago.
math don't lie.
djhives, you stand correct again."
gooooddd... i like to see people thinking like this.. yes you can actually calculate the ratios if you know the certain ammounts people made vs what things cost
ask your grandparent...
MY parents for instance came out of HS making $80 a MONTH!!!!
a MONTH!!!
people keep thinking thiey're getting more, but they are actually making LESS!!
again my example is only a decade old... in 1998 you could get by on $8 a hour.
Today you can BARELEY get by on $15....
in 1998 you needed a HS degree to make $8
in 2008 you needs a COLLEGE DEGREE to make $15
end result you need more 'education' - aka DEBT, to make LESS than what you would have made a decade ago with NO 'education'!!
